Concept 2 Model E Rowing Machine

Erg Rowing Machine

Concept 2 Rowing brought out a new model of their famous machine in 2010, the Concept 2 Model E Rowing Machine. This is a new version with quite a few modifications on the older model “D” Concept 2 Rower.

There are a number of substantial differences

  • The monitor is the very latest PM4 monitor. This is now fitted with a rechargeable battery
  • The monitor arm has been extended making it easier to reach from a sitting position
  • The seat height has been raised from the floor to 51 cms or 20 inches depending on how you look at it. This makes it 6 inches higher than the older model
  • The Chain is now Nickel Plated Steel offering better resistance and less corrosion. This has helped to reduce maintenance. It is now fully enclosed where as the Model “D” concept 2 was partially closed. This also helps towards easy cleaning
  • The Model “E” Concept Rower has a double powder coating and a clear over coat of lacquer
  • It now has a design that is one piece, making for a more stable platform
  • The footprint for both models remains the same, however the model “E” is slightly bigger when stored
  • Weight has risen from 25.8kgs to 29.5kgs
  • The model “E” now has a log card fitted
  • The cost has risen slightly to £1315

The latest version of the Concept 2 Rower has the new PM4 Monitor fitted. This has a great selection of features fitted as standard to help you achieve a gold standard in training and to keep you motivated whilst trying to reach your training targets throughout the year.

The Heart Rate Monitor Is now compatible with Suunto. They are one of the top companies who develop heart rate monitor technology. With wireless compatibility and chest belt included it offers excellent transmission and excludes any kind of interference from nearby users.

The monitor is also compatible with Polar Heart Rate devices and the option is available to have the polar receiver installed instead of the suunto. Polar also have a great name in heart rate monitors and one of my favourites is the Polar FT 80 which I have owned in the past, and one that I may well buy again in the future should the Garmin 405cx turn out not to be as good a performer.

The new rechargeable battery pack will make a big difference for some people. Unlike the old monitor which needed the battery changing at a regular interval, and which never told you when it was going to die, the new PM4 has done away with this.

When you are rowing you are actually charging the battery pack. What a great idea. You also recharge the battery when you connect to a PC, so there are now 2 options for keeping the battery alive. I would imagine with most people the monitor will be connected to a PC most of the time. I know mine will.

Concept 2 are thinking ahead this time as they have allowed for increased memory capacity so that they can add features further down the line.

With this model they have built in “concept 2 to concept 2 racing” without the need for a computer. This is both wired and wireless. This model has certainly taken a step forward with new technology.

This is currently the most sought after rowing machine for sale on the planet.
